Introduction

Computer Vision for Warehouse Management

  • Computer Vision Technologies nowadays allow to use camera based AI, technologies to solve use cases in Warehouse Management
  • These technologies allow to improve and support operations in a warehouse in a non-intrusive manner, i.e. no change of processes and ops are needed :
    - Tracing of Shipments in the warehouse
    - Empty Good management
    - Density Optimization
  • This document summarizes a POC approach for one of the most interesting use cases on “Tracing of Shipments” in warehouses

Our Solution

Templified Computer Vision Solution Framework

See
  • Observe and meter assets during warehousing process
  • Short stop for driver at dedicated place or no impact on operations
  • GDPR and privacy compliant
  • Analyze
  • AI to analyze and inspect images and frames from camera
  • Calculate dimensions, space, type, quantity etc. of assets
  • Real-Time Feedback to operators
  • Display & Enable

Many potential Applications for Computer Vision

    Focus of this POC proposal

    Realtime shipment tracking

Use Computer Vision to track shipments in real time in the warehouse

    Empty Goods Management

Computer Vision to count available empty goods in real time

    Loading density optimization

Use Computer Vision to track shipments in real time in the warehouse

    Access Control

Computer vision to check access of personel to areas

    ... and Many More

    Use Case One: Shipment Tracing

Shipment Tracing High Level Concept: Two Phases

Phase I: Generate a Visual Fingerprint of the Shipment

    Location Inbound Area

    High Level Approach

A set of cameras is installed in the inbound area, to record each shipment
from various angles. A dedicated AI Module builds a Visual Fingerprint of the
Shipment based on the recorded video streams and forwards it to the Tracing
    Module.

Phase II: Trace Shipment in Warehouse

    Location Inbound Area

    High Level Approach

A set of cameras covers the warehouse area to monitor the different
shipments as they move through operations. Each camera connects to an
AI Tracing Module that checks for shipments in the video streams
and compares them based on their Visual Fingerprint to
    identify individual shipments.

    Axulus Contribution

Based on the AXULUS AI Vision Framework we jointly configured a solution that allows AI based dolly management on the apron, considerably reducing search times for apron operators. Implemented as an AXULUS template, this can now be scaled across multiple sites and airport.
